PREPARE TO MOVE

Here a list of things that need to be done when you move to your new home:

1. Notify that you’ve changed address to:
Work
Banks
Pension company
DVLA for your driving licence
Mobile phone company
TV licensing
Water, Gas & Electricity Broadband suppliers

2. Register with:
BT, eletricity supplier
Thames Water, water supplier
Broadband supplier
Council tax


3. Pick a removal company and a date
Ask friends who have moved recently to recommend a man-with-the-van.
Avoid fridays and bank holidays when removal firms charge more.
Find a storage companies for anything you don't want at home, even temporarely. Expect to be charged for the amount of space required and the length of time items are to be stored.

3. Prepare to move
Hire professional cleaners for your old rented flat, otherwise the landlord might retain the cleaning fee on your deposit.
Clean the new property before the removal firm arrives.
Pack a box of essentials (a kettle, mugs, coffee/tea, toilet paper, toothbrushes and toothpaste).
Keep valuable items, such as jewellery, with you.

4. When just moved in
Read the meters
Collect informations about rubbish collection, recycling schemes, milk deliveries, etc...
Give copies of the keys to trusted persons
Register with a new GP
